I don't mean a party like with hats and balloons and cake and a clown and stuff. I mean like her own political party, nay, a THIRD political party.
I was just thinking about this while listening to Mika talk about Sarah Palin's potential future as a leading figure in the Republican party. Sure, it's a possibility, but am I the only one here that has gotten the sense that Governor Palin likes to do things her own way? And with the current chasm between the fiscal and social conservative camps ever digging deeper into the Republican party, is Sarah Palin really going to be the one to bridge the differences? Doesn't seem like her style, but it also doesn't seem like her style to disappear. And like it or not, I don't think people would let her.
So where does Sarah Palin belong in politics? Perhaps it would make the most sense for her to cut her losses with a floundering party, trim the fat and start fresh with her considerable support in the social conservative base to create the Palin party. Her own platform, her own rules, her own base.
Whenever we think of a third party, we inevitably think of Ralph Nader and the fiasco he made of the 2000 election. Public opinion has seemed to accept the fact that a third party will serve as nothing more than an ineffectual distraction. But at the time, Nader had very little public exposure, and those who had been exposed to him immediately noticed that he had the Wow quality of a box of dirt. Not to mention an Easy-On-The-Eyes quotient somewhere in the negative integers. Yet he still managed to take about 3% of the popular vote in 2000. Now factor in Palin's considerably way huger public exposure and her, uh..."wow" qualities. Do we have a statistics expert in the house?
So what do you think? Can we, or more importantly SHE, picture an election where we have three choices? Vote Republican, Democrat or Palin.
